I’m Screamin From the Rooftop here People!

Corona virus quarantining is soon going to look like a festival in the park compared to what is coming our way when our environmental stewardship catches up to us. And this could be very soon.

I’m only barely kidding when I say that I sometimes look for hidden cameras watching me to gauge my reactions — as if I were living in a Truman Show situation. Our collective complacency is not even believable! Are the producers of the show wondering if I will actually fall for this windmill and solar power nonsense, wondering if I will notice how completely counter productive and futile those things are, when it is obvious that our only real option is something like a 90% reduction in energy demand?

Are they wondering when I will totally freak out from the absolutely inexplicable complacency demonstrated by nearly everyone? Are they wondering if they can get me to start physically shaking people in the streets asking why they all are ignoring the obvious spiral of destruction, the endless warnings from scientists, and the realities they see all around them?

On a regular basis we hear new news of more severe pollution related catastrophes. We hear about new kinds of emerging damages that may be just as severe as any number of the already long list of existing catastrophic situations — think microplastics in our rain and even our runoff wastewater just from washing our nylon clothing, or the methane leaking from the arctic that is a much worse greenhouse gas than CO2. We hear about expanding areas or levels of contamination and or destruction. The warnings continue, the consequences mount.

And then, instead of actually attempting to understand any of this, most people just sigh, and shrug their shoulders with responses ranging from alarm to denial, and the people keep shopping and dreaming about what they want to buy next.

To me it is completely inconceivable that we are not in panic mode. While actual panic will not help much, a feeling of panic should certainly be embedded in all of us. Our way of life IS coming to an end, and we should be busily making adjustments. It may be next year, it may be 30 years from now. But people, this lifestyle we have created is not just unsustainable, but nearing an end. Exactly how ugly it will be probably is a direct result of how soon we take meaningful action to adjust to the coming scarcity.

I could go on about all of the environmental catastrophes that are ongoing that will eventually lead to food scarcity, most likely war, and all other manner of chaos. But everyone reading should already be versed in ocean acidification, dead coral reefs, dead kelp forests, insectageddon, dwindling forests and biodiversity, poisoned and disappearing ground water, atmospheric co2, arctic methane release, plastic pollution, etc. etc. If not, what are you doing with yourself? Marketing some new brand of bottled water?!

This consumption lifestyle is simply not practical. It is self destructive! And it is destroying mostly everything. Are you awake? Do you not believe it? Do you think the worsening problems will go away? Do you not see this as being the single most important issue to all people alive today?

I’m screamin from the rooftop here people! Get ready! Believe it! Look around! This prosperity will not last much longer!

Those of you complaining about Corona virus quarantine, take a deep breath, smile, enjoy your continued stay in Disney Land!…….for the moment.
